Know the Facts: What is Our Process?

River Valley Pet Cremation Society • October 15, 2026

Knowing everything ahead of time is reassurance that you're making the right decision.

From the moment you contact us with a need for private pet cremation - whether it's immediate or expected soon - we are here to help in any way possible. Here are the steps we will take together:

We will arrange a time to bring your pet into our care. You can bring your pet to us or we can transport them to our location in Hastings, MN. If you choose, you will have time to sit with your pet in our comfort room and say your final goodbyes.

A signed Cremation Authorization form and payment must be received before private cremation will begin. The form is available online or in our office. When we meet, we will discuss whether you want our signature package for $325, or any optional add-ons. If you choose to witness cremation, we will arrange that.

Your pet will be assigned a unique identification tag that remains with them throughout every step of the cremation process. This identification system allows us to maintain continuous tracking and accountability. Identification documentation also accompanies your pet throughout the process. A bit of fur is clipped, a paw print is taken for the clay ornament that comes with our signature package, we remove your pet's collar or tag, then gently place your beloved companion, alone, into our cremation chamber that is dedicated for pets. The chamber is heated to 1,600-1,800 degrees Fahrenheit, and the extreme heat vaporizes the organic matter and reduces most of your pet's remains to ashes.

When the cremated remains cool, any surgical equipment (pins, plates, or joints) are removed and any larger materials that haven't reduced, such as bone, will be turned into a powder and combined with the rest of your pet's ashes. The ashes are placed in a plastic bag that is put into the signature, engraved urn or another urn you have chosen.

Your pet’s cremated remains will be available to pick up at our location typically within 48 hours (Monday-Friday). We will contact you as soon as they are ready.

We're pet owners, too. We understand how important it is to know exactly where your pet is going and how they will be honored.
