By choosing private pet cremation for your beloved animal companion, you have already made the most compassionate, dignified choice for aftercare. But you still may wonder whether or not you want to witness the cremation. At the River Valley Pet Cremation Society, we allow families to be present for the start of the cremation. While you may not even have considered this to be an option, others wrestle with many emotions over the decision. Some people see witnessing as the ultimate expression of love, while others fear it could deepen their grief.
Depending on who you are, each answer could be correct. The decision is yours.
What It Means to “Witness” a Pet Cremation
At the River Valley Pet Cremation Society, witnessing a private pet cremation is private, safe, and dignified. You are invited to observe the beginning of the process without being exposed to the full mechanics of cremation. No flames are visible as your pet is placed gently into the chamber. Each step is explained, giving you clarity and reassurance that your beloved companion is being treated with care during this 100% private cremation. After your pet is placed into the chamber and the door is lowered, you will be escorted out while the cremation begins.
There is a $75 fee to witness your pet's cremation.
If You Decide That Witnessing Is Unnecessary
Look for closure in other ways. We have private comfort rooms for personal goodbyes (see them here). Take as much time as you need to give your biggest hugs, say everything you want to say, and give your final farewell. Even if you don't witness, be sure to all the questions necessary to trust that we will do everything promised of a private pet cremation. We will be transparent and deliver the dignified, compassionate service you expect.
