We said goodbye to Dobbie on August 20, 2025.He was our son Kyle's pup and was named "Dobbie" because of his floppy ears that resembled Dobbie the house elf in the Harry Potter movies. When Kyle passed, we had the opportunity to adopt him on the very same day we brought home a rescued Border/Heeler we named "Stormy". Those two were never apart and always paid attention to what the other was doing. Stormy passed 8 months prior to Dobbie
He had a couple of nicknames. The Big Dobber, My Big Brown Dog were ones that he also answered and responded to.
Dobbie was very intelligent and just as stubborn. He really did not like any other dog that was larger than him. Never aggressive, but he always wanted to be the one in charge. Very much a "one family" dog he was closest to his "Mom" Sandy. He wagged his tail a lot for our daughter and son, and the 6 kids next door, but his focus was always on Mom.
He was clownish, wanting us to chase him while he ran around the house with a preferred stolen toy in his mouth. He would also sit and moan at you until you answered him in the same tone. This could go on for long periods. He liked to lay on his side and "swim" on the carpet, while moaning out some doggy refrain.
We went for daily off leash walks at a spot close to home for 12 years. We made our own paths and over the years we bumped into nesting ducks, 2 injured and flightless red-tail hawks, racoons, many coyotes (LOVE the chase), newly born fawns, turkeys, and deer. Never hurting anything, but always curious.
Anywhere we drove he always had to be right between the front seats, front legs on the console, rear legs in the back. On our RV trips to Colorado, I started a game with him while road tripping, "Hey give your mama a kiss", and he would turn to her and lick her ear and neck. Every time.
Dobbie always would greet us with a wag so big you might think his butt was going to fall off, and his favorite toy in his mouth.
He made us laugh a lot. Best friend anyone could ask for. Life was better with the Dobbie around. Hopefully you are with Stormy and Kyle again, young, no aches, no cancer, and running as fast as you can.
